Role of Family Background in English Language Proficiency: A Case Study of Students from Different Socioeconomic Statuses

Abstract
Studi ini meneliti bagaimana status sosial ekonomi (SES) dan latar belakang keluarga siswa Tanjungpinang memengaruhi kemampuan mereka berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Dua puluh siswa dari berbagai latar belakang sosial ekonomi berpartisipasi dalam studi ini, yang menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran di Kursus Flink. Tes bahasa Inggris standar, wawancara, dan survei digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa siswa dari keluarga dengan SES lebih tinggi memiliki kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang lebih baik, yang didukung oleh akses yang lebih mudah ke materi pendidikan, orang tua yang lebih berpendidikan, dan kondisi tempat tinggal yang lebih nyaman. Siswa dari latar belakang sosial ekonomi yang lebih rendah, di sisi lain, harus menghadapi sejumlah kesulitan, seperti lingkungan belajar yang buruk di rumah dan sedikit dukungan untuk pendidikan mereka. Studi ini menekankan betapa pentingnya lingkungan belajar di rumah dan pendidikan orang tua dalam memengaruhi perkembangan bahasa. Temuan ini menyoroti betapa mendesaknya kebijakan pendidikan yang adil yang memberikan bantuan yang tepat sasaran kepada siswa dari latar belakang kurang mampu untuk menutup kesenjangan kemampuan berbahasa.
